Last Tuesday was Pretty Sique
As much as I love the interaction and sharing of Facebook, I feel like it is so stagnant and full of selfish motivation and peacock like boasting. Look what I did. Look who I hung out with. Look who I “know” and hang out with. I have left so many photography groups on Facebook in the past couple years. I became so tired of the posturing and all of the other ego driven bullshit. I have been posting 95% of my to Instagram over the past 3 years. It is the perfect place to post my work and walk away from it. To say thank you when people compliment my work or the people I have been lucky enough to work with. Instagram was designed to be a visual platform to post, share, comment and walk away from the ego surrounding so many people. I do not shoot or create for any of you. I have spent countless dollars buying cameras and lighting equipment and film and chemicals because I just have to create something. If I am not creating, I become so stir crazy and restless. I do this because I have to.
And thanks to the platform of Instagram, I have been contacted by some of the most amazing people that just want to create. To do something different than the status quo. Pretty Sique is a great example. We talked months ago about creating if and when she ever came to visit Austin. On June 20th, she was here. And i was able to create with her. After the jump are all of our film shots. Shot on Kodak Tri-X, pushed to 800 ISO. I actually sliced my hand open while in the dark room opening the 2 rolls of film we shot in about an hour. Once I could turn on the light, I found blood splatters on the wall and counters. Luckily it didn’t contaminate the film.
