Revenge of the Radical
This wasn’t supposed to be the next blog post originally. For the past couple months, I have been jotting things down in my notebook and putting words together in my head that are now just a saved draft for that eventually blog post. It was meant to be the first post since July and my temporary and abrupt disappearance from social media. I will get back to that one of these days…
This blog post is semi relevant to that discarded draft. I haven’t touched my skateboard in over 9 months. An old back injury flared up…along with a bunch of convenient excuses. But…last week we had this weird event in Texas where the temperatures got down in to the 70s during the day! So I quit making up excuses and grabbed my board and headed down to No-Comply to pick up a new pair of shoes to skate in. 2 hours of skating later and I was toast for the night but managed to get my sea legs back under me. I haven’t fallen asleep or woken up that calm and content in a long time. I managed to squeeze in 2 more full skating sessions in the rest of last week. And one more mini session last Saturday afternoon before the re-launch party for Roger Skateboards (including their new video premier).
Roger is owned by Michael Sieben and Stacy Lowery, and has lived under a couple of different reiterations over the past decade. Long story short, Roger lives again and Mikey decided to throw a party at No-Comply in honor of bring Roger back. You can read more about the party over on the Thrasher website, as well as check out the new video here (this thing is heavy with some amazing skating from an all Texas crew). I shot the following images on a roll of Ilford HP5 over the course of about 3 hours hanging out with old homies, making new friends, and just generally having a great fucking day. Enjoy!
